perfectday
A perfect day in Montreal should start with a walk through the oldest part of town, called Vieux-Montreal. As you walk, take a look around and enjoy the architecture of the many restored buildings dating from the 18th and 19th century. After a short walk, you will get to Place Jacque-Cartier. In this area, you will find outdoor café’s, street performers, flower sellers and horse-drawn carriages. Find an outdoor terrace and take a little break. Then, head towards the Notre-Dame Basilica to visit one of the crown jewels in Quebec's rich religious heritage or to the Pointe-a-Callière Archaeology Museum to learn more about Montreal’s foundation. After that, you might be interested in doing some shopping. If you are looking for original local gifts, be sure to stop at the Marché Bonsecours, where you will find Quebecois designers and artists.
Start the afternoon with a lunch in an Old Montreal bistro. Then, take a cab or the subway to get to the Mont-Royal Park. This 200-hectare park occupies part of the mountain that lies in the midst of Montreal Island, and includes the highest spot in the city (234m). Its hiking trails and panoramic viewpoints are not to be missed. Many activities are available, depending on the season, including: biking, pedal-boating, cross-country skiing and tobogganing.
This perfect day should end with a gastronomic dinner at the restaurant Europea and a live show at the Casino Cabaret, the Place des Arts or La Maison Symphonique. Finally, take advantage of the world-famous nightlife: whether it's a jazz club, a comedy club or a dance club, no one does it better than Montreal!
