Take the hotel's complimentary shuttle bus to the imposing Syntagma Square. From there, enjoy a leisurely stroll along Panepistimiou Avenue, lined with beautiful neoclassical buildings that house the University of Athens, the Academy of Arts and the National Library. Cross Stadiou Avenue and reach Karagiorgi Servias Street to find the city's finest confiserie, Aristokratikon. This sweet shop is excellent - in addition to fine chocolates, its speciality is pistachio-nut sticks, perfect gifts to take home. At Ermou street, walk towards Eolou Street and stop at Krinos for a plate of traditional loukoumades (honey and cinnamon doughnuts). Potter around the famous Monastiraki fleamarket and nearby Plaka, Athens' oldest and mainly pedestrianised district, where you can find a large selection of traditional Greek restaurants for lunch.
Start at Kolonaki, Athens' most sophisticated fashion district packed with designer boutiques and famous galleries. In the cafes of the central square, Athenians enjoy coffee while people-watching. The most popular is Da Capo, where the hardest thing to find is an empty chair. Once you do, don't wait to be served by a waiter - head straight to the bar and place your order. After your coffee, browse the stylish boutiques and bars in the surrounding streets before heading to Mount Lycabetus for spectacular views of the city. It's a 45 minute climb to the top, but if you'd rather not walk there is a funicular that goes up to the summit. While you're there, visit the tiny chapel of St George and, upon descending, stop at the famous Benaki Museum.
Start with a pleasant stroll along the pedestrian walkway of Dionysiou Areopagitou. As you walk towards the Thission area, admire the 150 metre high 'sacred rock' of the Acropolis, the most important site in the city. Enjoy a drink in one of its numerous buzzing bars. After this make your way to the Psyrri neighbourhood, which is teeming with bars, clubs and tavernas playing live Greek music. Personally I would recommend the taverna old gramophone - enjoy the vibrant atmosphere with the locals, who need little encouragement to start dancing till the early hours. To round off your evening perfectly, indulge in a mouthwatering gelato from Pagotomania.
