CHEWING GUM
It is legal to chew gum but an offence to sell gum or be in possession of large quantities of it.
SMOKING
Resist the urge to light up in air-conditioned places such as shopping malls, restaurants and cinemas. If you are dining outdoors, look for smoking signs or ashtrays before you start smoking.
Tipping
It is not usual practice to tip but you can do so when the service is exceptional.
Weather
Singapore's weather is mainly warm and humid throughout the year. Bring an umbrella as you never know when it is going to rain. The average daily temperature is 26-32°C.
WHAT TO WEAR
Wear light, comfortable cotton clothing for everyday wear. Casual wear is acceptable anywhere but certain establishments and restaurants may require 'smart casual' (collared shirt, trousers and shoes, not sandals). Ladies are advised to bring a wrap (and gentlemen a jersey) as Singapore is an air-con city, cold on the inside and hot on the outside. Business tends also to be conducted in similar fashion.
Jurong Bird Park
Visit the Jurong Bird Park where 9000 colourful birds of 600 species will amaze you with their variety, shapes and sizes. Watch flamingos, macaws, hornbills, cockatoos and even hawks in action at the interactive bird shows! Do remember to stop by the Waterfall Aviary, the largest walk-in aviary with more than 1500 free-flying African birds from over 60 species. No doubt an enchanting experience in colours, sights and sounds.
Merlion
The Merlion, a half-fish, half-lion statue, is a fitting symbol of Singapore. The Singa or lion represents the animal that a Sumatran prince saw which resembled a lion, and the fish is a tribute to Singapore's history as Temasek, the ancient sea town.
Night Safari
The world's first wildlife park with a night view. Over 900 nocturnal animals of 132 species inhabit 40 hectares of dense forest.

Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve
Singapore's first and only wetland reserve. This 130-hectare reserve includes mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Highlights include a 2km nature trail and mangrove boardwalk.

Voltage in Singapore is 220-240 volts, 50 Hertz. Remember to check the voltage of the item against the acceptable voltage of your home country.
Light clothing
Pack light, loose clothing: short sleeves and t-shirts. A pair of Bermuda shorts is also ideal as the weather can be humid.

Pack a small foldable umbrella as the weather can change quickly.
