LOCAL CULTURE

Public Transportation

The public transportation on Moorea is provided by buses or by le Truck, both of which run between Vaiare dock and Le Petit VIllage. They operate to coincide with the catamaran schedule. One services the north coast, the other the south coast, so tell the driver the name of your destination. It is not easy to catch it for your return. Le Truck stops in front of the hotel, but the timetable can be a bit haphazard. It is safest to ask the Concierge for confirmation of the timetable. The Concierge will be happy to book a taxi or coach transfer.

Language

The official language of French Polynesia is French, although the unofficial language, Tahitian, is probably more widely spoken. English is spoken by some native islanders and most will be happy to answer questions and help you.

DID YOU KNOW?

Marae

Moorea and the surrounding islands are dotted with marae, which are ancient stone constructions once used for prayer

Famous Films

Mel Gibson's movie 'The Bounty' was filmed in Moorea, as were parts of 'An Affaire to Remember', which starred Annette Benning and Warren Beatty.

WHAT TO PACK?

beach shoes

While the colour of the lagoon in French Polynesia is magnificient, you will find the beach a little bit rocky with corals. Bring your water shoes to protect your feet and enjoy swimming.

Adaptor

Bring a universal adaptor as you may have difficulty purchasing one in Moorea. The voltage in Moorea is 220v. In case you forget, the hotel has some at the front desk.
