LOCAL CULTURE

Money

The government changes currency designs frequently Check the change given to you from vendors as some may try to give you out of date notes

Religion

Most Mexicans are devout Catholics and believers of the Virgin of Guadelupe. We recommend that you use discretion when discussing the subject.

Security

We advise against wearing jewellery in public or displaying large sums of money. Also, flagging down a taxi should be avoided as, regrettably, taxi assaults are common.

DID YOU KNOW?

Amalia Hernandez Ballet

The Amalia Hernández ballet company has been showcasing the wide variety of Mexican folk dancing since 1959, and is enormously popular all around the world. You cannot miss their must-see show, running on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Cholula

150 km from Mexico City, the city of Cholula is home to the church of the Virgin of the Eternal Redemption. It affords spectacular views as it stands on top of the largest pyramid in the world. After the Conquest, the Spanish built churches such as this one over all the ancient sites. You can explore the temple's catacombs and see the surviving ancient murals.

Estadio Azteca

Host to two football World Cups, numerous performance artists and comfortably holding up to 105,000 people, the Aztec Stadium is an architectural marvel.

Metropolitan Cathedral

Dominating Mexico City's main square the Cathedral of Mexico is an impressive sight. The oldest cathedral in the Americas and incorporating stones from nearby Aztec buildings this majestic building has a Baroque style façade and 64 Neoclassical towers, holding 18 bells.

WHAT TO PACK?

Electricity

Don't forget an adaptor because the plugs in Mexico differ to European and American versions. If you do forget, don't worry, we will happily provide you with a converter.

Food

Mexican food is very spicy and 'Montezuma's revenge' is not uncommon for first-time visitors. We recommend you bring some medicine for stomach complaints with you, just in case.

Pesos

According to Mexican law, we cannot exchange currency at the Front Desk in the Hotel. However, we do have a money exchange office right across the street from the Hotel.
