insidertips
Culture
An influx of immigrants through the centuries has made Perth a very multicultural city. Expect exposure to many cultures, and restaurants serving dishes from all four corners of the globe.
Dresswear
We enjoy a relaxed lifestyle and, weather permitting, casual wear (shorts, sandals and sports shoes) are acceptable. Dress smart-casual for just about everything else.
Tipping
Tipping is a sign of appreciation for a service well done. It is not a requirement, but is much appreciated by those in the service and hospitality industries.
Heirisson Island
This little mass of land on which the Causeway now rests, was the furthermost point to which our founders initially sailed; they could not go further due to reed beds and the other small islands. It's about a one kilometre walk from the hotel. A small colony of Western Grey kangaroos populate the nature reserve which can be accessed by visitors.
Jacob's Ladder
Located on the side of Mount Eliza, 242 steps will take you up to Kings Park for a (literally) breathtaking view of where you started from.
The Narrows Bridge
The site of the city of Perth was determined by this strategic site. It was thought that it would be impossible to invade the colony with a fleet of ships due to the narrowing of the river at this point.
$ Aus
It's best to have some Australian dollars for your arrival as most businesses/services will not accept foreign currency.
Clothing
Our climate ranges from 2°C on a winter's night to 40°C on a summer's day. If you are visiting during the warmer months, a light jacket or something similar can still come in handy.
Electricals
It's always best to bring your original mobile-phone charger and laptop powerpack (240V Australia) with you as it's not always possible to get replacements. International adaptors (for most countries) are available.
Sunblock, hat and sunglasses
We have plenty of sun, even during the cooler months, so it's best to have some form of protection at all times.
Walking shoes
There are a lot of parks and gardens, and the Swan River is a favourite for joggers and walkers. Don't miss out by not having something comfortable to walk in.
