LOCAL CULTURE

ALLERGIES

Atlanta may have world-class museums, restaurants and hospitality, but this part of the Southeast also has a world-class pollen count. If you have allergies that kick up at the slightest breeze, bring your medication.

DRIVING

Atlanta traffic can be brutal during peak rush-hour times. The congestion can test your patience so keep a cool head as some motorists can tend to be a little aggressive at times.

SOUTHERN DIALECT

Verbiage such as 'ya'll,' 'fixin,' and 'reckon' can oftentimes throw visitors off a bit- it's part of the charm so soak it in and enjoy the Southern hospitality!

TIME ZONE

Atlanta is located in the Eastern Standard time zone -5 GMT.

Weather

Atlanta's climate is temperate but Spring and Fall are the best times to visit . The Summer months can be a bit steamy and the mercury may often drop below freezing point during the Winter.

DID YOU KNOW?

CNN Studio Tour

The 160ft escalator at the beginning of the CNN Studio Tour is the longest freestanding escalator in the world.

Coca-Cola

Atlanta is the birthplace of Coca-Cola, invented in 1886 by Dr John S Pemberton.

Georgia Aquarium

Newly opened in 2006, this is the world's largest aquarium.

Peachtree

There are 32 streets in the city that contain the word 'Peachtree.'

Stone Mountain Park

Stone Mountain Park is home to the world's largest piece of exposed granite.

WHAT TO PACK?

Camera

With so many things to do and see, a camera is a must. From the penguins at the Aquarium to the fountains at Centennial Olympic Park, there's a potential photo opportunity around every corner.

Currency

Change some money - enough to cover airport incidentals and transportation to the hotel - before you leave home, so you can avoid the queues at the airport ATMs. There is an American Express Travel Office three blocks north of the InterContinental.

Pleasant disposition

Atlantans are very proud of their city, and as such will display the genuine hospitality for which the South is known. Reciprocating goes a long way.
