A sister spot to the popular Sam & Dave’s in Marietta, Community is you’re typical better-than-average Atlanta fusion ‘cue. Smoked pork shoulder is pink with charred tips and the accompanying vinegar-based sauce will delight those who aren’t North Carolina sauce connoisseurs. In similar style, pork ribs get a St. Louis treatment and brisket gets accompanied with a sweet Kansas City sauce. Don’t let the fact that this place smells like a cafeteria circa 1985 deter you from entering, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. A hidden Emory haunt, Melton’s is no style, all substance. Sure, it seems like period piece from a decade you’ve been trying to forget (read: not a good first-date place) but the bar food is outstanding. Sandwiches are massive and nachos get baked in the oven to crisp up the chips a bit. The cheapo late-night menu and nightly drink specials are merely a bonus.

This wood and brick Decatur behemoth has a good argument for having the best beer selection in Atlanta. With an ever-evolving list hovering around the figure of 200 bottles and dozens of draughts. The large horseshoe-shaped bar is great, but be sure to sneak upstairs to the low-ceilinged Belgian bar, where the hop and barley lover will be treated to Belgium’s finest. The menu stands strong on its own with everything from the spicy “volcano” bread bowl of Brunswick stew, to a light pasta salad.
